Flash
Now when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled, and they stood far off
(Exodus 20:18, ESV)
It rained, off and on, just about the whole day. As the sun set, there was no moon or stars visible in the sky. I could see and feel the deep darkness. I looked out the window and saw a flashing red light on top of a tower, reminding planes to keep their distance.
As I continued to watch the red light, I started to wonder what it was like when the Israelites were in the presence of the mighty God in the wilderness. They realized how awesome God was, and how much they had fallen short of His glory. The people were afraid and trembled, and stood far off.
Because of God‘s grace, we cannot only come near to Him, but He actually sends His Spirit to live within us. The light that is on top of our tower should not be one that warns people to stay away. It must be a light that draws people into the presence of a loving God.
