Soil

[7] “For there is hope for a tree,
if it be cut down, that it will sprout again,
and that its shoots will not cease.
[8] Though its root grow old in the earth,
and its stump die in the soil,
[9] yet at the scent of water it will bud
and put out branches like a young plant.
(Job 14:7-9, ESV)

Sometimes I feel like an old stump in the ground. Much of what I had done for the kingdom of God in the past is no longer visible in my life. I can quickly give into a feeling of being unproductive, and maybe even unneeded. But as the scripture says, even a stump has an opportunity to be restored to its youthfulness, and productivity.

I am extremely blessed by God in that I have family and friends who encourage me during this season of my life. It’s not like I walk around all day long, every day, with a droopy attitude. It just seems like it can come on me once in a while.

For most of my life, God has shared dreams with me to help me. Recently, I was starting to think that these wonderful messages from God may be starting to slow down. Or maybe even cease!

I was reading a book recently, by an author that I highly respect, that was saying that God typically speaks to us in ways that we are comfortable with, and believe He will speak. I still believe that God wants to speak to me in my dreams.

I had a dream last night that I still remember quite well. I was in my house. As I was walking around, I found that there were several piles of very lush soil. The first pile was very small, and as I continued to walk, I found that the piles of soil were getting larger. Finally, I realized that the person who was bringing the soil into my house was a young girl. I asked her why she was doing this. She said that she was looking for something in the ground.

God’s Spirit is saying to me today that I am about to put out new branches that are going to bud. There will be seeds falling from these new branches into good soil. The young girl in my dream represents souls who are hungering and thirsty after the things of God.

If you are feeling like you are a stump with roots that are growing old in the earth, be encouraged that God has a similar dream for you. As your roots drink from Jesus, who has the well of living water, the new seeds that you plant will be in good soil watered by the overflow.
