Bird
Matthew 6:26
[26] Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
When my wife and I were redecorating the kitchen of our previous house, we decided to have this verse painted on the wall. We wanted to always remember that our Heavenly Father never forgets us. He always has provisions for us.
When we moved into our new house, we decided to do things a little more traditionally. We hung a few framed needlepoint that have scriptures on them. They’re all very meaningful to us and help us to remember the promises of God.
In my quiet time with the Lord this afternoon, I was staring through the window. I noticed that a pretty blue bird came and sat on the windowsill. I wouldn’t say that was unusual, except for the fact that I’ve never seen a bird sit on that windowsill.
I sat for a long time very quietly before the Lord, asking him what He wanted to say to me today. I kept looking over at the windowsill. The bird would fly away, and then come back. I was amazed that the bird would even want to sit on the windowsill because it is such a windy day. It seemed like the wind would be blowing the bird off.
The Lord said to me, “Why do you think the bird keeps coming back to the windowsill?”
I answered the Lord, “I don’t know.“
The Lord said to me, “That’s OK, because I’m not asking you to sit on the windowsill. It is not an easy thing for the bird to sit on the windowsill on this windy day, however, it knows the plan I have for it today. It trusts me.”
Sometimes the Lord asks me to do something that I’ve never done before. It seems like I will not be able to do it. And I’m not really sure why he wants me to do it. Neither one of these things are important. I just need to remember to trust Him.
